FUNG SHUI FOR WEALTH AND PROSPERITY

Introduction

What exactly is Fung Shui ? Literally translated, it is just wind (Fung) and water (Shui). Fung Shui is the art / science of living in harmony with our environment, thereby transmuting potentials into achievements. It is about harnessing the energy (chi) around us and made them work in our favour.

Years ago, the mention of eastern philosophy would make a westerner laugh and think of them as some silly ancient rites / customs. Today, some Fung Shui schools charge their students in US$ and have many foreign (international) students attending these classes. Many buildings are build after consulting Fung Shui Masters. Fung Shui expert are also consulted whenever something bad occurred. Most people know about Master Lilian Too  and Grand Master Yap Cheng Hai.

As the subject of Fung Shui is too complex for the average person, we will limit ourselves to only the basic.

Basics

Yin and Yang are the duality of the universe. The positive and the negative, male and female, good and evil, strong and weak, hard and soft and etc.

The cosmic trinity consist of heaven (tien), man (ren) and earth (ti). The heaven luck is what we are born with or call it destiny and therefore cannot be changed. Human beings can change their lucks through change of attitude, habits and with the help of  Fung Shui. A man 's luck can be change by changing his dwelling by the use of Fung Shui. Therefore, human and earth luck are changeable.

There is four main directions ie. North, East, South and West. Chinese compass actually have the needle pointing toward the South (nan) and therefore call "needle pointing south" (zi nan zhen). Chinese directions start from East (tung), South (nan), West (xi) and North (pei). These can be sub-divided into 24 sectors call 24 mountains and used in both advanced Eight Mansion and Flying Stars.

There is five main elements ie. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water . Wood produces Fire which in turn produces Earth which in turn produces Metal which in turn produces Water which in turn produces Wood. Fire destroy Metal which in turn destroy Wood which in turn destroy Earth which in turn destroy Water which in turn destroy Fire. Any person who is interested in Fung Shui should endeavor to perfect their understanding of the Five Elements.  Fire exhaust Wood which in turn exhaust Water which in turn exhaust Metal which in turn exhaust Earth which in turn exhaust Fire.

Elements Production Cycle

Wood --------> Fire ---------> Earth ------------> Metal -----------> Water ------------> Wood

Elements Destruction Cycle

Fire --------> Metal ---------> Wood ---------> Earth --------> Water ----------> Fire

Elements Exhaust Cycle (opposite of the Production Cycle)

Fire --------> Wood---------> Water --------->  Metal --------> Earth ----------> Fire

There is six lines of broken and/or unbroken lines in each of the sixty four hexagram ( --- / - -) in I Ching therefore giving rise to different meanings and interpretations on each of these hexagrams. Every three broken/unbroken lines will form a trigram (refer to 8 trigram below). Two trigram combine together to form a hexagram. As there is 8 trigrams, this will form 64 possibilities and therefore 64 hexagrams. Masters in Fung Shui will need knowledge of I Ching and the 64 hexagrams.

There is 7 days in a week.

There is 8 trigram namely Chien (three unbroken lines) representing the father; Kun (three broken lines) representing the mother; Chen (two broken lines on top of an unbroken line) representing the eldest son; Sun (two unbroken lines on top of a broken line) representing the eldest daughter; Kan (an unbroken line sandwiched by two broken lines) representing the middle son; Li (a broken line sandwiched by two unbroken lines) representing the middle daughter; Ken (an unbroken line on top of two broken lines) representing the youngest son and Tui (a broken line on top of two unbroken line) representing the youngest daughter. I Ching (the book of changes) shows the interactions between these trigrams to get 64 hexagram. We can also consult I Ching for a solution to our problems. This normally done with the aid of 3 coins (ie in ancient times 49 yarrow sticks were used for such purpose). We will have to throw the coins six times with each throw representing a line thus the resulting hexagram. With the aid of I Ching we will be able to interpret the solution. Many years ago, I was working as a supervisor in a local firm. My colleague does not have much to do but he was considered as more efficient than me. I slogged from morning to night and was seldom appreciated. I consulted the I Ching and was advised not to move as whatever I say would not be believed by my superiors. Anyway, I went against the advice and thought that if I do not speak out, my superiors would never know what I have done for the company. The I Ching was correct in the prediction and I regretted opening my mouth. The lesson here is, every thing has its time. The timing must be right. There is a time to talk and a time to keep quiet. There is a time to advance with caution; a time to advance as we wish and a time to stand still.
